I'm asking bloggers to begin with these broad, essential categories:
- Energy
- Waste
- Purchasing
- Transportation
- Food
- Water
- Buildings
- Land
Some bloggers may find these secondary labels useful:
- Grants
- Research
- Curriculum
- Careers
- Internships
- Projects
- Events
Why do we use labels? Labels help to characterize the essential things about your post (not every last detail). Used as search terms, they help those who want to locate contacts or identify projects in a particular area.
Why does this matter? As our blog gathers weeks and months of news, those posts will be archived. This will help create an informal record of what's been happening on campus. It can remind us of our progress--kind of a painless assessment tool--or it can help us to locate others working in a similar area. We can increase this impact by taking the simple step of attaching labels to our post. For example, if all posts that have to do with energy--whether they come from a Facilities project, a residence hall initiative, or a physics class research project--are labeled "energy" then we can do searches by that label to see all the "energy" news together.

Note: While things are getting established, I will monitor labels pretty closely and will edit as necessary to keep labels serving the purposes that most help the campus. I am open to suggestions for additional labels, so don't hesitate to contact me with ideas.
